Pretty much the reason we have "radical" Islam can be traced back to Europe and the US trying to get their hands on the oil in the Middle East.  Most of the countries there are a result of the Allies breaking up the Ottoman Empire and carving their spheres of influence.

Not that there weren't crazies in that part of the world before, and not that the Ottoman Empire wasn't actively trying to spread Islam at the point of a bayonet before that, either.

However, a lot of the garbage doesn't have diddly to do with religion, it's about carving out a territory and controlling the population.  Religion is just a cover.

If you really want to fight the domination of the world by Islam, talk you SO into having 8 kids and then pick out a strong church.  One that preaches that it is the duty of the members to have large families, supports the 2nd A, preaches that education is important, responsibility for your own actions is correct and only losers expect the .gov to support a healthy person who is capable of working to support themselves and their family.

Of course, that means we will have to completely revamp out political system.  And our .gov.

Islam has been at war with virtually everyone since it's inception.  They conquered and occupied Spain for along time.  Look at the maps of Europe to see the extent of Islamic conquest long before oil was ever important let alone an issue.

I do agree that much of it has little to do with religion but Islam and it's legalistic extremes make distorting it an easy tool to use to foment violence.

One of the main reasons the US built a Navy was to deal with Muslim piracy along the Barberry coast. Of course, most of the first slaves brought here were muslims...

Some of the current trouble in the Middle East is left over from WWI.

T. E. Lawrence was involved.

My initial random thoughts are that there was the Romans & the Crusaders too............. Smiley

"Syria had been under Roman rule for seven centuries prior to the Arab Muslim conquest............

Muhammad died in June 632, and Abu Bakr was appointed Caliph and political successor at Medina. Soon after Abu Bakr's succession, several Arab tribes revolted against him in the Ridda wars (Arabic for the Wars of Apostasy). The Campaign of the Apostasy was fought and completed during the eleventh year of the Hijri. The year 12 Hijri dawned, on 18 March 633, with Arabia united under the central authority of the Caliph at Medina."

"one of Urban's stated aims was to guarantee pilgrims access to the holy sites in the Holy Land that were under Muslim control,"

Khartoum also.........

"Muhammad Ahmad bin Abd Allah (Arabic: محمد أحمد ابن عبد الله; August 12, 1844 – June 22, 1885), also known as The Mad Mahdi, was a religious leader of the Samaniyya order in Sudan who, on June 29, 1881, proclaimed himself the Mahdi (or Madhi), the messianic redeemer of the Islamic faith."

And India.........

"Among the Muslim invasions of ancient India, the famous invaders coming through the Khyber Pass are Mahmud Ghaznavi, and the Afghan Muhammad Ghori and the Turkic-Mongols."

There's lots & lots of historic conflicts to choose from, no doubt about it.

But remember, we'll soon not have to worry about terrorists, we'll have Hillary or Trump.
Hillary is going to invite them all over here and Trump is either going to nuke 'em or sell them a motel.

Hope y'all are well,  Rooster

I can be just as angry at the jihadists for wanting to kill me, as they are angry with me for being an American.

The conflicts in the middle east as of today date back to the WW1 backroom deal. Even some of ISIS say they are trying to get what was promised. For a majority it is a reason to act the way they do. People were gullible back then and thought governments were honest and trustworthy. Yeah the Islamic people invaded Spain and Europe. Really you can't say that people who said they were Christian were much better. I believe Charlemagne had a policy of become Christian or die. It was that type of pushing that is said as one reason the Norse went vikinging. Might have been a reason but I am sure wealth from plunder and slaves made ships and men available. Nobody has a very rosy past and given a reason and a imagined legitimacy the enlightened ones here would be as bad or worse. It would be do or die. Modern enlightenment is merely a veneer.

What's over the next hill?

Another aspect that most are not aware of is the primarily Shi'ite belief, involving the return of the 12th Imam ( the muslim equivalent of a savior ).  In a nutshell.  According to their belief He will only return in a time of great strife for the muslims.  The ayatollah khomeini of Iran and his following believe it is their duty to facilitate this "great strife" as quickly as possible to hasten the return of the 12th Imam.  The ayatollah has made this public, it is not secret information.  There being no requirement in their teachings that this "great strife" be the result of others  actions and their fervent desire to bring the 12th Imam back ( who will banish all other religions ).  They feel it is their religious dictate to develop nukes to lob at Israel and the USA, (no provocation necessary) which will result in the "great strife" that will bring the return of the 12th Imam.  Short of nukes any other method is and will also be used to reach the same goal.
Someone mentioned the 10% figure for radicalized muslims, and many debate that that is the lowest most conservative estimate, some say closer to 40%.  So there are now 1.6 billion muslims worldwide 10% = 160 million minimum, radical muslims who have us in their sights
In our rational thinking we mistakenly think they want something tangible: land, jobs  , money, new cars, houses, thier own state, to COEXIST Really Huh?
What they want does not fit into our rational thinking, what they want is us and all Infidels  they will stop at nothing less, it is their divine duty and destiny.  They Want to die for it.
Correct, this belief is not held by all Muslims, there are other factions that do not adhere to every word (why they kill each other).  But most hold to the return of the 12th Imam.
There is also a slick loophole in their teachings that allows them to temporarily partake in the wicked ways of the infidels to gain their trust and infiltrate their ranks to further the cause. Basically the ends justify any means necessary.  Interesting little side note, this same loophole exists in Black Liberation Theology as taught by the famous reverend Jeremiah Wright.

There are those who believe that as soon as Iran gets a nuke, it'll be sent somewhere to begin the final conflict.  As a retired Pastor, I can see how this all fits into the Bible's teaching about the last days.
