I remember hearing that if grid section X lost its switching, it would take 2 month to bring back up. The bad part is that the estimate was assuming the rest of the grid was up and running and could support the rebuild efforts.....

from my research they really have no idea how long it might take and if one section goes down the rest can follow very fast... before they can act...

 Dude

I like solar panels.......

On a previous van I owned I covered the roof in them & added a 200Ah second battery.

It's all better & easier now Wink

Sorta back on the subject...The last  time a tornado hit a fairly large town and the 'burbs around it, reports were saying the first looters arrived before the first responders.  And were driven off by armed neighbors.  I wonder how come that didn't make national news.  It barely made our local news, which puts a very liberal spin on everything it reports.

I just combined points from the last two articles, about knowing your neighbors and what happened when a sudden disaster struck.

That seems to be the norm, people who have nothing also think nothing of taking what others hav and the media refuses to acknowledge it...

The two things are intertwined no doubt about it

I guess my main comment re a loss of electricity supply is that, in technical terms there is no need in the modern world to draw power from the grid - the current trend is to generate power on site & sell excess back to the grid - the only issues are capital outlay &  return on investment.

Selling back to the grid isn't an option everywhere, which is sad...

And laws prevented off grid are growing, agenda 21 and all...

Allowing people to opt out lessens control...

Yes it is, because it speeds up the return on the capital outlaid. Sad

Still I think it will get better in most places over time - the logic is unassailable, just like capturing & storing rain water.

out here they are pushing home solar hard - i tell folks they better watch their ass - it's a deal with the Devil.

i have been saving up for a big battery bank, and then pulling the trigger on solar here.

catacombs is another thing the bastards don't need to know about.

i've been banging numbers around with some mad men - building a battery might be the thing to do at this point in time.

the powers that be would be horrified, of course.

but that's added value.
