Thought you guys might like this. http://libremap.org/data/you can download full res high quality 7.5 minute topo maps as TIFF files which should open fine as a photo. I use them for my land nav courses, depending on the area I need |

yep, and you can also get an overlay for google earth. http://www.gelib.com/usgs-topographic-maps-2.htmHere's a youtube vid on how to do it if you need help:

Hey Randy, no prob. I'm a bit partial to TIFF because I can still take it in at high res and tweak it in a drawing program to suit my needs. That said, PDFs can be manipulated too, but I guess I'm a bit old school in my design work.

One more resource for this sort of thing is ArcGIS.com. There's a dynamic map that anyone can browse around, but there are also tons of map services that can be overlaid on the basemap of your choice. Further, you can load your own data, as a .csv or .gpx file, over whatever map you've constructed. You can also do mark-up's to your map and configure things to be deeply educational and useful, beyond just points on the map.
